The NSS unit and the Sports Club of Dakshin Kamrup Girls' College, Mirza celebareted National Sports Day at Sontola ME School. Number of sports event oraginsed among the school students by the organiser.
Utkarsha, in association with the Students’ Union and the NSS Unit of the college organised a two day workshop on Borgeet and Jyoti Sangeet from 01-02-23 to 02-02-23 in the college premises. The objective of the programme was to make the students provide some training on the timeless creations of Sree Sree Sankardeva and Madhabdev and also the compositions of Jyotiprasad Agarwal. For this purpose, Sri Sarbeswar Kalita and Sri Gobinda Patgiri were invited as the Resource Persons.
The inaugural function was attended by Dr. Ranjan Bhuyan, Vice principal and an Associate Professor of the Department of English and faculty members of other departments.
The NSS Unit of Dakshin Kamrup Girls’ College, Mirza has been trying to follow and nurture the ideology of NSS in a manner that ensures meaningful participation of all stakeholders. The activities carried out in this Seven Day camp from 30.01.23 to 05.02.23 have served as an eye opener for the young NSS volunteers about the contemporary problems that our society is facing. The special initiatives on Health and hygiene awareness, self-defence, awareness on Swachhta , plantation ,vocational training, entrepreneurship training and various workshops undertaken during the camp have served as a milestone in fostering social responsibility and nationalism among young NSS volunteers. With commitment toward the service of the society and with deep sense of gratification, we take pride in the successful completion of the camp by the NSS volunteers of the College. We take this opportunity to express our gratitude to Dr. Nara Kanta Adhikary, Principal of the college for his valuable inputs and support throughout the year. We congratulate and extend our best wishes to NSS volunteers, teaching and Non-Teaching staff of the college and all the teachers students and staff of Sontola primary school who have made this journey a success.

NSS volunteers of Dakshin Kamrup Girls' college, Mirza participated in the teaching programme organized by the Unit on 20-12-22. It is a part of the Community Outreach Program that engages in various similar activities all year long, in an attempt to develop service learning and social responsibility. While the volunteers work with individuals and groups in their communities they use a range of formal and informal methods.
The National Service Scheme Unit of DakshinKamrup Girls’ College Mirzaorganised a Seven Day NSS Special Camp at Sontola village, Mirza from 24-01.2022 to 30.01.2022. 30. The NSS volunteers from the college participated in the camp. The camp was inaugurated by the Principal i/c of the college Dr. RanjanBhuyan by hoisting the NSS flag.The volunteers along with the Programme Officer DrMitaliKathkatiaorganised various activities which include plantation, cleaning drive, yoga session, craft workshop, academic sessions on health and nutrition, wall painting, workshop on Madhubani painting and pickle making.The Unit also distributed blankets to 30 students of the SontolaAnchalik ME school of Sontola village. The prime objectives of this camp were to inculcate the spirit of selfless service and voluntary work among the volunteers, to prepare the young mind to work for the upliftment of the common masses of the society.The camp concluded with the valedictory session with a brief cultural programme.

v The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on people’s mental health. Some groups, including health and other frontline workers, students, people living alone, and those with pre-existing mental health conditions, have been particularly affected. During the world Health Assembly in May 2021, governments around the world recognized the need to scale up quality mental health services at all levels. The theme of World 0 Day 2021 is "Mental Health In an Unequal World" Accordingly the NSS Unit and Dept of English, Dakshin Kamrup Girls' College Mirza celebrated the World Mental Health Day on 10-10-2021. The keys to mental health were discussed by Dr.Mitali kathkatia, PO,NSS Unit. Dr.Minakshi Bairagi, Associate professor Dept.of English delivered her speech on the importance of maintaining a sound mental health for a balanced life.She also encouraged the volunteers to devote their leisure time to creative work. Few physical exercises were also demonstrated by Dr Mitali kathkatia. 40 students of the college participated in the programme.
Director and the top officials of NSS, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports , Govt. of India conducted a Zoom meeting webinar with all the district Nodal officers, Regional Directors, NSS coordinators and other NSS officials of entire India. Dr Mitali Kathkatia, programme officer, NSS Unit of Dakshin Kamrup Girls' College got the opportunity to attend and share her experiences regarding various activities of NSS in fighting against Corona virus in the district of Kamrup(R) as the Nodal Officer of Kamrup(R)District, Assam. Now all the volunteers are requested to install Arogya setu app, DIKSHA app and to take training regarding COVID-19 from IGOT without fail within next Sunday. This is considered as most urgent.

NSS volunteers of the college participated in 3 day workshop on “ Capacity Building and Entrepreneurship Development from 25th of Sept to 27th of Sept. 2019 held at Gauhati University organised jointly by the NSS cell of GU and Rajiv Gandhi National Institute Of Rural Development], Chandigarh India
Workshop on Capacity Building of Youth on Substance Use Prevention was held in Sontola village, Mirza on 22-07-2019. The workshop was organized by the NSS Cell of Gauhati University in association with the NSS unit, Dakshin Kamrup Girls' College Mirza and Sontola Primary and ME School.Mirza. The programme was sponsored by National Institute of Social Defence, New Delhi. Ms Reina Bhattacharjee, renowned Psychological counselor and motivational speaker graced the event as resource person. Negative psycho-physical and social outcomes resulting from substance abuse can be prevented by timely intervention and by enhancing protective factors- said Ms Bhattacharjee. Dr. Ranjan Kakoty, Director, Students Welfare, Gauhati University expressed his views on the role of youths on prevention of substance abuse and assured his support and cooperation to the youths willing to work in this field. Students of Sontola Primary school,guardians, people from the nearby villages, youth of the locality and students from the nearby colleges participated in the workshop and interacted with the resource person with great enthusiasm. Dr. Mitali Kathkatia Program officer, NSS unit of Dakshin Kamrup Girls College explained the importance of organizing the workshop and expressed her willingness towards working in this field through the NSS Unit of the college in future.
Workshop on Self-defence is a countermeasure that involves defending the health and wellbeing of oneself from getting hurt or harm. It is generally found that women or girls are not very that equipped to defend themselves against any attacker. Self-defence helps women protect themselves and their dear ones from getting attacked. With this objective in mind NSS unit of Dakshin Kamrup Girls’ College and Career Guidance Cell of the college organized a one day workshop on Self-defence for girls n the college premises on 27-06-2019.Mr.Papu Khan, 4thDen, Black belt. General secretary ,AssamVovinam Association along with his associates conducted the training programme. 15 NSS volunteers took the training in the first phase. The training was given to create awareness, assertiveness develop verbal confrontation skills, safety strategies and physical techniques that enables a girl to successfully escape, resist and survive violent attack.
Fashion technology or designing is one of the most sought after courses in the contemporary time. Fashion technology is a technology that enables to have a fashion experience which is very important on the part of every individual. Keeping in mind the demands of the area as a career option , the NSS unit in association with career guidance cell of the college organized a one day Awareness Programme on Fashion Technology and Fashion Designing. The distinguished members of J.D Institute of Fashion Technology, Ghy were invited to enlighten the students on the said subject. 63 students took active participation in the programme.
A workshop on personality development-“7 Keys To Success” was organized by the NSS unit on 17-06-2019 in the college premises. Sri Sunil Basumatary, former youth officer, NSS Regional Centre, Ghy. And presently a motivational speaker was the resource person for the programme. His presentation on the theme mentioned above was very interesting and inspired the students in active participation in the workshop. The workshop was very helpful in developing self confidence among the students.
NSS unit of Dakshin Kamrup girls College Mirza has organized a training programme on leadership on 15-06-2019. The theme of the workshop was “learning To say No”. dr. SunitaAgarwal, associate Prof., Dispur college, Guwahati was the resource person for the workshop. The areas highlighted by the resource person were.
- Status of woman in the society –past and present.
- Women’s security.
- Attitude of the society towards girl child.
- How to develop self esteem of women.
The workshop was very interesting and informative one.
Accordingly Dakshin Kamrup Girls’ College ,Mirza ,Assam was selected as Nodal institution and Programme officer Dr. Mitali Kathkatia was selected as the Nodal officer for organising and conducting district level youth parliament along with the Mock drill session in the college.
District Youth Parliament was held in Dakshin Kamrup Girls college, Mirza on 28-01-2019 as it was selected as the nodal institution for conducting the programme.The programme was organized by the NSS unit of the college as per direction of Ministry of Youth affairs and Sports, new Delhi and the NSS Cell Gauhati University, Guwahati. . The event was held after the walk-in-screening session held on18th and 19th 0f January 2019.The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Gajendra Adhikary, Principal, Dakshin Kamrup Girls college , Mirza. Students from the colleges of Kamrup district attended and participated in the programme. Participants for the District Youth Parliament were selected through the walk-in-screening procedure. Out of Participants only 3 were selected for State Level youth Parliament held at Gauhati university, Guwahati. The name of the selected students for State Youth Parliament are- Sri Basudev Das, Sri Nitumoni Kumar, Sri Gokarna Das, CSK Marak and Banjit Kalita. Sri Basudev Das was selected as the best speaker at District level and also got the privilege to attend the National Youth Parliament held at New Delhi. Mitali Kathkatia , Programme Officer,NSS unit Dakshin Kamrup Girls College, Mirza co-ordinated the entire programme and delivered the vote of thanks to the dignitaries, participant, students, teachers and to everyone present in the event.
